EPC checker

Enter a postcode and see the energy rating for every certificated property on that street: current band, score, and how it compares.

What the checker shows

Every home in England and Wales gets an Energy Performance Certificate when it is built, sold or let, and the certificates are public. For any postcode, this checker lists each certificated property with its current rating, floor area and certificate year. Click a property for the full record: the score, the potential score, modelled running costs compared with its band’s median, and any earlier certificates for the same home.

What it can tell you before a move

A rating two bands apart can mean over £407 a year in modelled heating costs between otherwise similar homes; the band cost pages put numbers on each letter. Renters can check a property meets the legal minimum of band E, and the landlord rules guide covers where that minimum is heading. Buyers can spot homes whose potential rating is far above the current one, which usually means cheap improvements were never done.

When a property doesn’t appear

Homes with no certificate, never sold or let since 2008, will not show. Certificates opted out of public view at the official register are excluded too, and this site refreshes monthly, so a certificate lodged this week may not appear yet. The official lookup at gov.uk/find-energy-certificate is always the definitive source, and it is where the full certificate document lives.

Scotland and Northern Ireland

This checker covers England and Wales. Scottish certificates live on the Scottish EPC Register, and Northern Ireland’s on the NI energy performance register.
